Waypoint transforms the game for new and returning players

As was alluded to earlier in the week, No Man’s Sky’s latest update – named Waypoint – is less about adding mind-blowing new features and more about rebalancing the experience so it’s easier to enjoy for both newcomers and veterans. This comes in form of several tweaks, including an information portal which will help outline your objectives, and Milestones which will acknowledge your achievements.

In addition to Custom Games, which will allow you to better tailor your playstyle, Hello Games is also adding Relaxed Mode: a more subdued difficulty option that will allow you to focus more on exploration than resource gathering and survival. Of course, if you’re already a seasoned space-farer, then expanded level caps and improved inventories are going to give you greater opportunity to venture to the far-flung corners of the universe.

As always, this is just the next step in No Man’s Sky’s journey, with more free updates planned further down the line. It’s worth remembering that the release has been announced for PSVR2, and will launch on Sony’s new headset in the near future – presumably next year. Considering the game got off to such a disappointing start, it’s truly impressive how much the title has expanded and improved over the past six years. Has all of this tempted you back in?

Cant wait to see the game changes in PSVR2

Never tried or cared about the game..is it any fun? i might jump on now.

@zebric21 it's fun for a few hours after an update, but the longer you play the more the grind remains the same and the more time you waste chasing nothing of any importance.

it's like pulling on a piece of string with no end to it.

@zebric21 It drops down to £20 every other PSN sale (or disc is under £15 used). With 6yrs worth of free updates that have expanded various aspects (inc a recent one overhauling/improving combat), I'm sure you'll be able to get £20 worth of play.

The update is good but its nerfed things what didn't need nerfing. The community myself included are quite mixed so far.

@Gamer_Guy Yet tons of players myself included have 1000's of hours on it. I guess its one of those games where if it clicks it clicks.

@WallyWest oh yeah I get it - I put in loads of hours early on in it but it is what it is and I've had my fill 😀

I played outer Wilds which is similar to this and hated it, I don't think I would have the time needed to invest my time playing to see everything tbh

@WallyWest 1000 hours?! I just manage to play RPGs and they are 300+ hours, I couldn't spend that amount of time playing this game if it's not worth it, the only game I've ever got close to 1000 hours was Skyrim and I don't think I can do that again lol

@huyi Well i've been playing it since it launched in 2016 and its one of my favourite games so over 6 years the hours spent on it really builds up.

I'm going to grab this one of these days.

I played waay back at launch but it was a totally different game.

I don't have a love for endless games but I'll find a cheap disc copy and give it another whirl.

Hard pass. Why anyone would want to return to this is beyond me.

This game is nothing short of a masterpiece but for me its ONLY a VR game. The experience even on the rusty PSVR was just so cool I can't play the pancake version. Eagerly awaiting the PSVR2 for my next playthrough.
