The SCUF Vantage ships this August.

Today, peripheral workshop SCUF Gaming has unveiled the latest innovation in its line of endlessly customizable professional-grade gamepads, the Vantage. It’s got a slew of interesting features, but perhaps most compelling is the fact that it will be the first wireless PS4 controller to be officially licensed by Sony in North America.

Like most of SCUF’s current offerings, you’ll be able to completely personalize the Vantage to your liking, from body color to button resistance and mapping. The front magnetic faceplate is removable and interchangeable, as are the thumbsticks/rings, d-pad, and even the vibration motors themselves, a first for SCUF products. Up until now, you could only opt out of vibration during the controller building process on the website, but now you’ll be able to ditch the feature on the fly.

Also new to this iteration are additions being dubbed Sax buttons, which are smaller inputs on the side of the accessory (think extra bumpers), as well an audio control touchpad near the bottom of the device. This is in addition to the paddles on the rear of the controller, so with all of these input options, it seems that SCUF is trying to give console gamers as much of the mouse/keyboard PC control experience as possible.

Practically everything on the Vantage is interchangeable.

Something to note is that the thumbsticks are skewed like an Xbox One controller, which some people tend to prefer. The wired-only model will retail for $169.95, while the wired/Bluetooth wireless edition, which comes with a designated carrying case, will run you a whopping $199.95. Both controllers will arrive packaged with a bunch of interchangeable parts as well as a braided micro-USB cable.

I’ve reviewed several of SCUF’s gamepads in the past and continue to be impressed by their quality and versatility, so to say that I’m excited about the Vantage would be an understatement. It’ll definitely set you back a few bucks, but from my experience, the price of entry is largely worth it.

Pre-orders are now open on SCUF’s website with an estimated ship date of August 2018.
