Manufacturing Tittle-Tattle Tips PSVR 2 to Enter Production Soon - Push Square

The word on the social media street is that the next-generation PSVR headset will go into production soon. Speculation stems from a Chinese supply chain source, who claims a company named Goertek has landed the contract. The firm previously partnered with PlayStation on its original virtual reality headset, and supplies components for the PlayStation 5 as well.

While the source is somewhat wishy-washy – we’ve been unable to independently verify the information for ourselves – Goertek is enjoying record share prices, partly due to its collaboration with Meta on the Quest 2 headset. This is despite ongoing semi-conductor shortages around the world, so the results are impressive.

The firm expects to post similar results in 2022, with one “major Japanese” partner expected to ship around “one to two million” next-generation VR headsets later this year. This is almost certainly referring to PlayStation, and gives us a rough indication of how many units the platform holder plans to prepare for launch.

It makes sense that the new PSVR headset would be getting ready for mass production if it is still targeting a release this year, so there isn’t really much substance to this story beyond things perhaps progressing as planned. We previously heard from development sources that a full reveal is scheduled for the start of this year, and that’s still the case as far as we’re aware.

A true PlayStation veteran, Sammy's covered the world of PS gaming for years, with an enormous Trophy count to prove it. He also likes tennis games way more than you.

Can't wait to get it. Just hope they've addressed the motion sickness issue.

@munstre Unlikely to be fully alleviated, although development experience, higher resolution, and the haptic feedback in the headset should all help to make it more comfortable in most cases.

@munstre I dunno, I feel perhaps VR just isn’t for people with motion sickness. It’s fine standing still but the minute the camera moves in VR, that’s me gone 😂

Give it to me now 😃 really looking forward to this.

The full reveal is coming bro, is everyone on the hype train now?

I’m so excited but I have a feeling I won’t be affording this for a while.

Ready to preorder! Really looking forward to experiencing the next gen improvements.

What I really hope it's backwards compatibility with PSVR games, so you don't need both to play VR!

Day 1 for me. Play VR on PC but was just waiting for PS5 to jump into PSVR.

@redapt Me too. If it doesn't play old VR Games I'll probably give it a miss.

I probably won't be able to justify spending the money on this thing but still looking forward to it.

They could really do with getting Half Life: Alyx on there. I think that could help a lot with sales and making it a legitimate console peripheral

“one to two million” units means every PS5 owner can buy 10. Hurray!

Day 1, no doubt. Can't wait

"with one “major Japanese” partner expected to ship around “one to two million”

Being completely honest I sometimes forget Sony is a Japanese company 😅 they have so little going on over there 🤷

As for VR I will definitely get on board this time, their first attempt looked messy but this new one looks like a must buy assuming scalpers give us permission to have one.

If the headset is priced right (399 max) it might sell pretty good! I can't wait.. Anyone want my old PSVR for 150 euros? lol

I didn’t buy PSVR but I’m tempted by 2. I’ve a few friends who rave about Quest but I’m not willing to give Facebook any money (or more data). I can imagine that a headset powered by PS5 could deliver much more immersive experiences than the Quest anyway.

If psvr2 is working on PC it will record huge sales.

" its collaboration with Meta" Who? "on the quest 2" OH right...

@Octane You must be really fun at parties....This joke was well written, thanks for the chuckle

@munstre Not really something in their control. There are various prototype technologies to attempt to trick your body; but those are nowhere near ready.

@redapt Its a Day 1 buy for me if its backwards compatible, its a no-buy if its not. That being said, I don't see how they could make it backwards compatible if uses inside-out tracking; because a lot of games have built in calibration wizards that are pretty specific outside-in with a sensor/camera in front of you. I hope they manage it though.

Id be a lot more excited for this if I knew I was going to play it.Absolutely love the PSVR but haven't used it in months. My eyesight has become so bad now (maybe cuz of vr or maybe not)that unfortunately I don't think buying a new PSVR is the smartest move.

For me at least, I kinda got used to the mental/physical disconnect that causes motion sickness. I mean, the severity lessened over time. I think your body kinda starts to understand that everything is fine if you play frequently enough. By the end of RE4VR, I was running around full locomotion no problem. It helps to kind of act out the motions when moving in VR - physically walking in place in real life for example - especially if there are stairs. Oof. I also found it helpful at first to turn sideways and pretend I was skateboarding or something, hahaha.. But jumping off a ledge in game, or worse, those launch portals in Doom VFR.. 🤢🤢🤮

@thedevilsjester They could figure out a way to trick those into thinking they are done normally. We won't know for sure until it's announced, but it would be awesome if it was. I'd love to see what the resolution bump could do.

@munstre I know 2 genuine life hacks, one is if you get egg shell in your eggs use a bigger bit of egg shell to scoop it out, stops it shooting about the place. The much more relevant one is put a fan on facing you when you play VR. I used to feel sick after 30 minutes play with even stationary games but when the wind is hitting you it tricks your brain into thinking that actually, maybe you are moving, and it stops it trying to make you throw up because it thinks you've ingested something toxic that's giving you hallucinations about moving.

Yeah, definitely sounds like a holiday '22 release to me. Cool.

@Jaz007 I don't think it's viable for many titles that use their own calibration. I could think of hacks or tricks that you could potentially use on a per-title basis; but nothing that could work at a general level.

The best we can hope for is that it might be that we get limited compatibility (only games that don't have their own calibration tool) and allow for the other developers to update their games with PSVR2 patches.

I would love to be wrong though; so, Sony, please do your magic.

I hope the have a setup where the new hardware emulates psvr1. I have a broken psvr1 and loads of games I hope to pick up again when psvr2 hits the shelves.

Sticking with my prediction for this year.

PSVR 2 State of Play coming soon.

Hopefully we'll be able to get one and it won't be another fiasco like what happened when the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launched. I'm planning to buy it but if I'm unable to buy it at launch that's fine I'll get it down the road when things calm down.

@nessisonett I remember playing Wipeout in VR for an hour. When I was finished I thought I was ok then all of a sudden when I took the headset off and stood up I had to race to the bathroom to get sick. I only play VR games for typically 30 minutes now, any longer I just get sick all the time which is a real shame because putting this problem aside I really enjoy VR.

@munstre was just about to post the same exact thing. Given my motion sickness with PSVR, unfortunately I might have to wait & see, whereas I usually like to be an early adopter...

@dasd2 Trinus 2.0 will probably happen if it isn't pc ready.

@RubyCarbuncle You ever wondered if expecting to get sick (because of the WipeOut experience) actually tricks you into feeling a bit sick? Obviously it's probably not only that, but it can definitely make it worse if you don't reign in your expectation of it sometimes.

@thedevilsjester I'm bracing myself for the PS5 upgrades fiasco all over again (but now VR-> VR2)

Really excited for PSVR2 and it’s a day1 for me but, looking at it from a more reasoned perspective, if it doesn’t get big uptake first of all due to low PS5 availability then this might lead to lower developer uptake and less excitement than would be needed to push it to mainstream; whereas a later release with a big dev push and what would likely then be a slightly lower price…this may be the better strategy.

@nessisonett don't go too much too soon build up your vr time and u will be able to eventually go longer without feeling motion sickness. the only game for me that I felt motion sickness on was wipeout the omega collection. the tracks were too mental wasn't so bad that it was fast it was the ups and downs that got me🤢🤢

at this point it will release late 2022 , and be available to buy in 2025

I want a PSVR 2 so bad but.... umm. Where are the PS5's. This next gen is over all ready and it never happened.

I still can't get over the fact that you really shouldn't have screens that close to your eyes and that it generally causes motion sickness if used for prolonged periods.

Add in the high cost of entry, inevitable lack of proper games and that I wear glasses that constantly steam up whenever I try VR, it would take some kind of massive fortunate event where I landed a free or at least very cheap headset for me to ever give it a proper go.

@Juanalf hopefully they send out some sort of invite for purchase to folks that have had their PS5 and or original PSVR for a while. Would be a great way to get the ball rolling scalper free.

@MagicalBarrie i’m going try that egg hack! Stupid egg shell!

@Nf157 Saves so much time and stress, no one wants to start their day yelling at at a bit of eggshell shooting around the pan 😂

@Wazeddie22 VR has zero impact on eyesight. If your eyesight is deteriorating go get it checked out and get some glasses. On that note, I’m hoping Sony allow prescription lens inserts in their new headset. Or at least make it easiest to wear glasses without scratching them. Happened to me day one (both a scratch on my glasses and the headset lens, although never again thereafter strangely)

Still not interest in VR games until we have SAO/dot hack/Log Horizon level of immersion.

(without the pain or fear of death/disease etc)

I still didn't get from SONY adopter for PS4 camera, but I sent request 07.12.2021. I'm hoping to get them before February, also I have PSVR since launch in my country and I love this PS gadget for more things, but one thing makes me headache, that's because I'm a smoker... What do you think about the price of new PSVR2 set (without PS5 camera because I'm already buy this camera, also I have PS4 V2 camera) and would you think that this time there will not be to much cables for PSVR2?

@get2sammyb What do you think about the price for the new PSVR2 set without camera and for numbers of PSVR2 units after launch day?

@Wezi That would be: Day One Purchased... I was play HL Alyx on PC with Oculus Quest (but old one) and it's not be pleasure satisfied because of my (than old) AMD GPU...

@nessisonett I'm agree with you, but for me it's satisfying pleasure...

@Stragen8 I don't think that PSVR2 would be unfordable because most people have issues with VR sickness and VR at all, also it's not in interest of "mining people" and scalpers. At least when it comes to my country, I remember that not many of my PSN friends were interested in that PSVR bundle at all, nor to buy one, also I am concerned that the price of PSVR's bundle sets has fallen quite quickly below that standard prices...

@thefourfoldroot I do wear glasses as it happens..driving and tv only.I admit I am having eyes seen too once a year due to scar tissue but the decline of my eye sight just seems a big coincidence on how it sped up when I started playing vr. Good idea about the prescription lens though!I only wore glasses once and that was enough to scratch it...only slightly though luckily.
