Gran Turismo 7’s May 1.15 update adds wild Suzuki, Café Menu Books, tweaks physics | Traxion

Three new cars have been added to Gran Turismo, including a Vision GT Suzuki and the Toyota Hypercar, but the new Café challenges, Sport Mode Time Trials and birthday rewards are the main changes.

This month’s free Gran Turismo 7 update is now live for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 drivers, and it’s substantial with three new cars – one of which is a brand new Vision GT concept – plus new races and a host of changes and fixes.

Before we dive into the details, the version 1.15 update weighs in at 987 MB on PS4 and 938.9 MB on PS5.

We’ve known this was coming for some time, ever since the schedule for the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup was revealed in April. We could also tell from the recent update teaser.

However, it’s finally here. The 2021-specification Hypercar, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship last season in all its electrified Gr.1 glory.

In what was known as the ‘GoPro Camaro’, the 2014 SEMA award-winning modified Camaro appears without the ‘Camaro’ name or the action-camera sponsorship, perhaps understandably.

This carbon fibre-bodies restomod has a tuned LS7 V8 under the hood and joins four other SEMA prize-winning cars within Gran Turismo 7.

This is a pleasant surprise. The Gran Turismo fraternity has been speculating all week as to the identity of a mystery roadster. Approximations of a Corvette or a Ferrari were wide of the mark, as a new Vision Gran Turismo concept from Suzuki is the answer.

The diminutive open-top sportscar features a front-mid-mounted Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle engine that revs to 9,700rpm mated to three electric motors for the craziest hybrid drivetrain in automotive culture.

It reminds us of the imaginatively titled ‘Suzuki Concepts’ GSX-R/4 (pictured above) from Gran Turismo 4 but reinterpreted for the modern age.

With a featherweight 970kg curb weight, this is a Vision GT car that we’re pining to exist in the real world. Build it, Suzuki. Build it.

We thought the Café Menu Book career was complete – but alas not.

Three new books, and therefore associated races and prizes have been added:

Up until this point, the endgame was reached at Café Menu Book 39 – although there were always additional races to take part in within the World Circuits area and online.

The ending still triggers at the same place, so you’ll need to unlock that first before trying these new additions and provided you have reached Collector Level 20 – which by that stage, you likely have.

Book 42 will appear once you surpass Collector Level 30, and 55 more conversations have been added to the Café so you can widely talk about the styling of the Audi TT to your heart’s content.

The prize for the Lightweight K-Cup is a Radical SL ’13, whereas the prize for books 41 and 42 are six-star Roulette Tickets – the highest value available.

To go with the expansion of the Café Menu Books come nine new World Circuits events. Now, be warned, these aren’t on top of the new Books, but rather these are the new races for the Books.

But, if you don’t want to complete the Café or would like some races to re-try or earn credits from, then the following are now available:

Recently, around the Kyoto Driving Park circuits, you could ‘ditch hook’ around the kerbing to gain additional time. This in particular affected Daily Race C from the week commencing 9th May.

While these tracks were carried over from GT Sport, they were revised, with the kerbing being replaced.

Following the 1.15 update, when you try to hook your tyre over the inside of a kerb, you lose traction on the grass, sometimes firing you across the road. Problem solved.

A feature in past Gran Turismo games, but notable only by its absence in Gran Turismo 7 until this point, players will now receive a gift from the Café on their birthday.

I always remember receiving the most humdrum economy cars for my birthday rewards in prior Gran Turismo games, but that was all part of the fun.

The ‘Birthday Present Tickets’ are dished out by Sarah in the Café and can be claimed a week before or after the date of birth registered on the player’s account for PlayStation Network.

The Sport Mode in Gran Turismo 7 is where you go for ranked competitive online races, and the upcoming Gran Turismo World Series esports competition.

Now, like in GT Sport, there will be regular Time Trials within this section too, where the aim is to simply top the leaderboards. We’ll keep these updated now too alongside our weekly playlist run down every Monday morning.

For now, the first event is any Gr.3 car around Suzuka. See you on the leaderboard.

Continuing the trend of slowing addition to the car roster is the incremental expansion of the game’s photographic locations aka Scapes.

This time New Orleans is now the featured section for the month, while three new spots have been added to the ‘After the Rain’ collection. Damp.

As covered in our guide to the Legend Cars Dealership, the pricing will fluctuate based upon real-world valuations thanks to insurance provider Hagerty. This has now changed for May, with a new update planned for August 2022.

Has something on your wishlist just increased in price? Keep your eyes peeled for the blue up arrow, or red down arrow, next to each car’s price for an indication of appreciation or depreciation.

Four Mission events have been tweaked following user feedback, and as a result, the leaderboards have been reset. If you’ve been struggling with any of the below, now if you chance to try again.

Hallelujah! When you back out of the ‘Car Maintenance & Service sub-menu, it no longer takes you to the World Map, but the GT Auto menu. Thank goodness for that! Best change in this update…

The force feedback on some Fanatec wheels has also been adjusted, and ‘Equal Condition Mode’ has been added to the multiplayer options – but still no fix to the host migration – seven new car colours are now available in GT Auto and you can now directly export in-game images at 3840×2160 pixels on a PS5 or PS4 Pro. This latter feature got Traxion.GG’s Ross hot under the collar.
